BEC is Life.

Time flies so fast. Few months before my first term as a lay missioner ends here at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, I  had my share of a roller coaster ride of experiences.

Like this typhoon battered region, I was also swept by many storms in life physically; trangkaso, nalason dalawang beses, nadulas sa bangin, muntikan malunod sa baha, nabalian ng tadyang, na-infection ang sugat, loneliness, spiritual dryness, family problems back home, threatened and harrased by military and  suspected as one of rebels and was almost shot by the platoon leader.

But, as I look back at those moments in my two years here, those challenges I have encountered made me decide to renew my contract and give my commitment for another term to journey with the people in the BEC especially those in the peripheries.

The genuine joy and smiles in the faces of the children every time I arrived in the different barangays is priceless and  a joy beyond compare.  The sharing of laughers and artistic collaboration with the youth energizes me to go beyond my limits and feeds my passion for creativity.  The fellowship of the mothers as they share their struggles and dreams inspires me to give more of my time without hesitation. The brotherhood of Family Group Tatays as we gather weekly to share the Word of God is a testament that indeed there is  hope and it is possible for men to be truly active in their participation and commitment in the Catholic Church.

I know that journey has just began. We are just starting re-building the BEC’s in the parish.  But I am truly grateful for this golden opportunity to participate as a worker in God’s vineyard, being a lay missionary journeying with the least, the lost and the little ones.  It’s my way of giving back to Him everything that I have and all that I am, for the greater glory of God.  Life to me is mission and mission is my life now through forming and living  BEC… For this very reason BEC is Life to me, now and for always as long as God allows me to be.
